Meet our EduExcellence Online Principal
Updated: May 26, 2022

Yolande believes that ‘standard’ methods of education don’t work anymore, since not all students learn the same way. When it comes to digital learning environments, teachers must think outside the box and prioritize creative thinking to help students succeed.
We asked Principal Yolande a few questions, so see what she had to say below:
Tell us a little bit more about yourself.
I am a mom of three and grandmother of two lovely boys. I am an avid reader and my interests include traveling, literature and arts.
Why did you choose to be in education? I've always wanted to have a job with a meaningful purpose, and I feel that my current position as EduExcellence Online Principal allows me to do just that.
Why is EduExcellence different from other schools? Naturally, in all schools there are standards that need to be adhered to, but “standardized” teaching does not work. Not all students learn the same way. At EduExcellence, we endeavour to eliminate the root causes of learning barriers that learners might have, instead of just putting a bandage on it.
Our learning, emotional, social and physical abilities depend on how well the neural pathways in the brain are laid down. By using neuro-developmental movements in our day-to-day school day, we provide a chance for the brain to rebuild neural pathways which are the foundations of brain and body health. We don't standardise education; we individualise education to enable all learners to benefit, whether they are on campus or at our online school.
What is your favourite part about online school?
In a digital learning environment, teachers who think outside the box and prioritize creative thinking are well suited to help students succeed. My favourite thing about online learning is that it creates opportunities for teachers to innovate and create engaging learning experiences for students. It takes creativity, but every type of lesson or class – from science to social studies and physical education – can be taught in a virtual environment with an online curriculum. I just love the creativity and endless possibility of it all. What is your teaching philosophy? I believe a good teacher, first, has a powerful faith in the future. Like a forester planting a tree, he or she will never see the tree in all its glory. I know I may never see the fruits of my labors as a teacher, but I will never stop believing that it will be there. My calling is to plant and nurture seeds that will grow and shape tomorrow
What is a favourite inspirational quote of yours?
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid!” – Albert Einstein
What is the greatest challenge facing educators these days? I would say, from an online perspective, it would have to be busting the misconceptions about what online education is and how it really works.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself? EVOLVING – DEPENDABLE - COOPERATIVE What do you bring to EduExcellence that makes you unique? We are all unique, but if I have to answer this, I would say I really enjoy learning new things and am constantly seeking out new learning opportunities. I think being involved in Online Teaching, these are definitely qualities that you need.
EduExcellence Online School was founded in 2020 and is South Africa’s only online remedial school backed by 15 years of classroom teaching experience. If you’d like to get in touch with Principal Yolande, reach out through the channels below:
